Odors from a dishwasher are a common problem in older machines. They can become trapped by having smelly food particles trapped in them, and every time you open the dishwasher door, you may find that it stinks. There are a couple of ways in which you can remove smells from your machine, as well as preventing bacteria from building up on rotting food.

Clean Out the Dishwasher

The most simple solution is to clean out the dishwasher. Do this by removing the racks, and putting these into some soapy water. You should then be able to find the reservoir at the bottom of the machine. Unscrew the spray arm so that you have complete access, and then wipe down this area with a dishcloth and some liquid soap. Scrub areas which have gunk deposits on them.

Add a Hanger

If you are still not happy with the way that your dishwasher smells, you may also want to clean it out using a device which is similar to that of the hangers in cars. This will provide a small amount of perfume to the wash, eliminating smells. These can be bought from most local supermarkets.
