If you want to keep your wall strong, you must repair any mortar that begins to disintegrate. This process is simple, even for a novice. Just follow the 4 steps below.
Things You'll Need:
* Mortar Mix
* Flat blade screwdriver
* Spray bottle
* Water
* Scraper
* Cement
* Construction sand
* Trowel
* Small brush
* Muriatic acid
Step 1 - Remove Loose Mortar
Use a flat blade screwdriver or ice pick to remove mortar that is weak or beginning to crumble. Wih a small brush, remove all loose mortar and dust.
Step 2 - Mix a Batch of New Mortar
Combine mortar mix, water, and sand, then mix until the mortar is the consistency of toothpaste. Add mortar color to match the existing mortar color.
Step 3 - Apply the New Mortar
Moisten the brick surface by spraying with water, then insert the mortar into the space from where the old mortar was removed.
Step 4 - Finish
Smooth the mortar surface until it is even with the brick and old mortar, then let it dry overnight. Remove mortar residue from the brick surface with muriatic acid and rise off the brick with a garden hose.
